Making sleep health a high priority

"You can sleep when you're dead," is dead. A sleepless epidemic need not be added unto a pandemic. To take care of one less trouble of the day is to catch those Zzzzzzz at night. We don't need a study to feel the physical and mental effects of not getting the proper rest. The wealthy and Type A professionals are not immune to this. No one is. But Black people, other non-whites, those who are low-income, socially disadvantaged, all are more than three times as likely to die prematurely as the rich for living less healthy lives. This includes not getting at least seven hours of sleep per day. Add an unhealthy diet of processed foods, a polluted neighborhood, and stress, and you have a recipe of a disaster for anything from weight gain and inflammation to cardiovascular disease and cancer, or a plethora of any other health problems. While some stressors are inevitable sleep health needs to be made high priority. You can't much enjoy life or take care of anyone else if you're not taking care of yourself. "Health is wealth!"
