Beyoncé To Provide Grants To Families Facing Eviction
Beyoncé’s charitable foundation BEYGOOD is donating $5,000 grants to 100 families/individuals who are facing eviction or foreclosure. The BeyGOOD Impact Fund is stepping up to help those impacted by the housing crisis. Online applications open on Jan. 7, 2021 with the NAACP facilitating the process.
This past summer the Grammy awards winner partnered with the NAACP to award $10,000 grants to Black-owned businesses. In April, the mogul donated $6 million to aid local community-based organizations that focused on mental health issues stemming from the pandemic in New Orleans, Detroit and Houston.
What Beyoncé has to say: "Communities of color are suffering by epic proportions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families live in underserved areas with homes that make it harder to practice social distancing. Communities that were already lacking funds for education, health, and housing are now faced with alarming infection rates and fatalities and these communities lack access to testing and equitable healthcare. In our major cities, African Americans comprise a disproportionate number of workers in these indispensable occupations, and they will need mental health support and personal wellness care, including testing and medical services, food supplies and food deliveries, both during and after the crisis."
Studies show that 40 million renters in this country are likely to face eviction by year's end.
