Question: Does air-conditioning help spread COVID-19?
Air-conditioning spread the coronavirus to 9 people sitting at a distance from an infected person from Wuhan, China. The person coughed or sneezed in a restaurant in Guangzhou, China back in late January. Researchers studying the case think that the restaurant's air-conditioner blew the viral droplets of one person who was asymptomatic in the pathway of all of those diners causing them to become sick with the COVID-19 virus.
As many states begin to re-open many are concerned with air conditioning spreading the virus in public places such as restaurants, barbershops, and offices. It's being advised for the ladies to wash our hair at home as to avoid the stylist using a blow dryer, possibly spreading the virus if an infected person sneezes.
Research says the type of AC system as well as poor ventilation can cause viral respiratory droplets to travel and cause transmission. As far as your home AC window unit or fan, the recirculating of the air, should not, be infected if you’ve been consistently self-quarantining with family or roommates.
One thing is for sure...we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Stay-at-home orders being lifted does not equate to throwing the face masks, goggles, gloves, and social distancing out of the window.
