White teacher casts Black children as slaves in play
When parent Carmen Parker found out her daughter was cast as Enslaved African 2 in a slave play at school, she did not blame the teacher, but the system. Mrs. Parker is also saying she is willing to support the teacher in learning how to make a better community for Black students.
The white teacher, who is on paid administrative leave, without prejudice, gave a sorry excuse of trying to teach a lesson about slavery to a class of Black fifth-graders from a 2003 Scholastic instructional book, due to a lack of resources. Some teachers have been complaining about school districts curricula requirements without any real working materials.
Again, Mrs. Parker does not blame the teacher, but the system. She says she will not stand for the teacher getting fired and doesn't want her to be "terrified of minority children." She says her daughter loves the teacher and has a birthday gift for her. Smh
